IP Paralegal

Lutron Electronics Co., Inc. has an immediate opening for an IP Paralegal.  In this position, you would be a key part of the corporate legal team.  A successful IP Paralegal will help the legal team:

• Assist with organization and management of electronic files both generated by and provided to the IP department for patent and trademark related matters.
• Acquire signatures on patent related documents from engineering team.
• Review incoming patent and trademark related correspondence for due dates, docket actions due, and file correspondence electronically.
• Prepare and file with the USPTO: patent applications, information disclosure statements, office action responses, and other documents as necessary.
• Correspond with external US and foreign law firms regarding various intellectual property matters.
• Review patent applications and patent files for quality assurance throughout prosecution.
• Interact with Lutron business professionals and engineers on patent and trademark related matters
• Transcribe, type, proofread, and finalize documents, correspondence, reports, etc. as instructed by legal team.
• Scan, index, and log various legal documents
• Update calendars, and schedule meetings and conferences 
• Other patent and trademark related duties as assigned.

• Two-year Paralegal degree, or equivalent work experience
• One to three years’ work experience in a law firm or corporate law department 
• Experience with intellectual property preferred, but not required
• Familiarity with general legal concepts and procedures
• Understanding and demonstrated sensitivity to matters involving confidentiality and attorney-client privilege
• Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
• Demonstrated success learning new subjects
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Knowledge of patent procedures preferred
• Knowledge of trademark procedures preferred, but not necessary
• Knowledge of docketing software a plus, but not necessary
• Fluency with MSOffice for writing legal correspondence, creating and manipulating spreadsheets, and managing calendars
• Experience with billing management system preferred, but not necessary
• Willingness to travel 5% of the time
