At Lutron, you’ll join a diverse and creative group of researchers, interaction designers, and visual designers who share a passion for human-centric design and have numerous patents to their name. You’ll work with teams across the organization to imagine and build innovations for Lutron’s customers, designing for a variety of platforms, devices, and services, and exploring new technologies like AR, VR, voice, and more. 

Responsibilities

As a Lead Design Researcher, you will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects at the intersection of the physical and digital world, using your skills to: 



  • Define or review research strategies, aligning with stakeholders on goals, success metrics, and deliverables

  • Lead and mentor Design Researchers throughout the lifecycle of research projects

  • Guide and conduct generative and evaluative research

  • Ensure findings are effectively presented and communicated to stakeholders


Review and build hypotheses and brainstorm concepts for a variety of technologies like AR/VR, IoT, and conversational UI



  • Adopt best practices in design thinking, lean, & user-centered design principles

  • Improve upon existing design research tools and methodologies and create best practices

  • Help grow the team by hiring and onboarding exceptional design researchers

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has a project portfolio highlighting the following qualifications / skills: 



  • Bachelors or Master's in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Science, Computer Science, Design, Marketing, Psychology, or related field 

  • 8+ years of industry experience and 3+ years mentoring junior researchers 

  • Minimum, cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher+ 

  • Experience in: 

    • Leading a team of designers and researchers in large, complex projects 

    • Hiring, onboarding and mentoring design researchers 

    • Using quantitative and qualitative techniques like contextual inquiry, interviews, surveys, wizard-of-oz, and others

    • Working in an agile environment
